Family Winter Destinations Allentown

Aside from the heart-pounding, strength-building, and life-improving group workout classes at Steel Fitness Premier in Allentown, The Pennsylvania Poconos is a popular location for winter outings and activities! Its many ski resorts attract families every year looking for outdoor fun and to enjoy the winter season. Residents of the Lehigh Valley (being located next to the Poconos) are well situated to enjoy its many different ski resorts.

Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain is located at 1660 Blue Mountain Dr, Palmerton, PA the Blue Mountain Resort offers many different activities for families and small groups with restaurants and lodging available. Skiing and snowboarding are among its more popular attractions with equipment rentals in seasonal or daily options to take on its 39 different trials. The resort also offers snow tubing, archery, hiking, camping, lift rides and more.

Elk Mountain

Located near Union Dale, Pennsylvania Elk Mountain is a part of the greater Endless Mountain area. While not widely known as other locations those serious about skiing praise Elk Mountain and among enthusiast, it is considered a hidden gem. The resort offers all the amenities you’d expect including food, equipment rental, lifts, and training classes for children and adults. Snowboarding is also offered at the resort.

Camelback Mountain

Camelback is adjacent to the far larger Big Pocono State Park. The largest ski resort in the area it offers 35 slopes, skiing, snow tubing, and snowboarding. Notable is the fact the resort offers both an indoor and outdoor waterpark (Camelbeach). While the outdoor park may be closed for the winter the indoor park is open year-round offering many activities. Camelback focuses heavily on its training classes for both skiing and snowboarding making it an excellent place to learn for a novice.

Jack Frost Big Boulder

Located near White Haven, PA Jack Frost Big Boulder offers skiing and snowboarding across 36 total trails (20 located on Jack Frost and 16 located on Big Boulder). In general Big Bodler is favored by snowboarders while skiers tend to favor the newer Jack Frost trials. The resort offers a shop, equipment rentals, a small cafe, and other services for visitors.

Bear Creek Mountain Resort

Located near Macungie, Pennsylvania the Bear Creek Mountain Resort is the only ski destination listed here that is located in the Lehigh Valley proper. In addition to its outdoor activities (skiing, snowboarding, lift rides, and 21 slopes) the resort offers full amenities for visitors including a 116 room hotel for lodging, a full spa, a salon, and three different restaurants. The resort also offers training classes and equipment rentals. Other year-round activities at the resort include biking, disc golf, and hiking.

The winter offers numerous outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, ice fishing, local festivals, hiking, and other activities to take advantage of the winter season. The above resorts are certainly notable but are only a part of the many different activities you and your family can enjoy in the Poconos. Winter is often a time of the year where people stay indoors more, however, by doing so you miss out on a wealth of different and exciting activities. Given its easy accessibility for residents of the Lehigh Valley the local skiing and outdoor resorts are not to be missed.
